As you guys may or may not know, I’m not the biggest gear head in the world. I like to keep my setups simple and to the point, however when I am in the mood to purchase some gear, I’m always looking for the best deal around.
Guitars, pedals and other music gear are expensive. The price of a single pedal can be more than a big screen plasma TV. Whenever this is a chance to score a better deal than what the list or MSRP price, you should take it by the horns.
This talk of saving money and finding a great deal on musical instruments brings me to this neat little web company I was turned on to this past week called YourInstrument.com .
Competing with the likes of Ebay and Craigslist, YourInstrument.com is an online business designed especially for the music hobbyist or professional musician looking for a great deal on new and used gear. Its also designed to help music stores with an additional avenue to advertise and sell their instruments.
But rather than being a catch all for every thing from cars to TVs to clothes, YourInstrument.com is focused strictly on musical instruments and getting you, the bargain-hunting gear shopper, a deal you can’t possibly refuse.
A site built by musicians, for musicians – exclusively.
I did a little bit of poking around the site and there were some things that I really enjoyed both as a browser of the Internet and someone looking for gear. The first was the search bar, which enables users to search as broad or specific as they want.
One thing I also thought was very cool was the listing feature. At the top of the page, you have the option to sell either as an individual or as a music store. This is another stark contrast from eBay, which has you make a profile regardless of whether you’re a single person or a business selling merchandise on their platform.
Getting your listing ready on the YourInstrument.com marketplace is easy, intuitive and detailed.
Listing new instruments for sale comes with a small surcharge but used instruments can be listed for free, in any volume and there are no additional fees or commissions. Talk about a deal!
With each listing you can add a detailed description, photos and also a video so prospective buyers can see and hear the instrument, prior to making an offer to buy it. Familiar with all those demo videos on YouTube of pedals, basses and keyboards – well, now you can include them in your used gear listing.
If your currently in the market for a new bass, check out the range of new and used bass guitars for sale.
Another neat feature of YourInstrument.com is the Our Stores section. Where you can see a Google Map of all the music stores around the United States that are affiliated with YourInstrument.com. In most cases, these companies are small, local music stores selling an honest product to their community.
It’s a great site to check out if you’re in the market for new or used gear and appreciate the peer to peer marketplace. There is also an Australian version YourInstrument.com.au
