If you’re unfamiliar with bassist, composer and side man, Gheorghe Postoronca, now is the time to start knowing who he is.
Gheorghe is a Moldovian solo bassist and composer best known for his solo compositions including “Victoria”, “Crazy Train” and “On the Road”, all of which were featured on NoTreble.com.
When watching Gheorghe’s solo work, one of the first things that popped into my head was emotion. It takes a special hand to balance the loud with the quiet; the aggressive with the delicate in almost a drop of a hat. Gheorghe has one of those hands.
Sure enough, as you’ll read down below, when I asked bassist and composer, Gheorghe Postoronca, how he would describe his playing, he said, “emotional bass playing”.
I have to say, that really does perfectly sum up his playing style.
Also – so does this 10-plus-2-string stretch:
At the moment, Gheorghe is currently holding down the bass duties for the band of celebrated musician, Valy Boghean, best known for his mastery of a dizzying array of instruments including:
- Saxophone,
- Flute
- Trumpet,
- Tilinca,
- Kaval,
- Taragot,
- Duduk,
- Bagpipes,
- Clarinet and
- Bass Guitar
After seeing his performance of an original composition titled, “Victoria” on No Treble, I knew I had to reach out and say something to him. As luck would have it, Gheorghe responded to my Facebook message and agreed to be a part of the How I Play series.
So here we go: this is how Gheorghe Postoronca plays:
